A BSW mill manager has recently met the Duke of Cambridge on account of his volunteer work during the pandemic.
Throughout May the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge visited various locations across Scotland in support of their respective charities. The focus of the visit was to give thanks to those who have played a role in caring for others during the Coronavirus crisis in the UK.
In a particularly personal gesture from the football loving Duke, on Saturday 22nd May, Prince William invited a small number of emergency responders to join him in watching the Scottish Cup Final in a rooftop bar near to Edinburgh castle.
Dave Mills, BSW Timber’s Mill Manager at the Boat of Garten site was asked to attend on behalf of Scottish Mountain Rescue, as a thanks for his role in delivering and implementing a Benevolent Scheme for the organisation, which he undertook as a volunteer during the pandemic.
Dave said: “It was a huge honour and a privilege to be asked to attend the event and to meet the Duke. He was extremely interested to hear how families had adapted to the crisis and he expressed how genuinely grateful he was for everyone who played a part in helping the UK get through such a tough period.”
In light of the event, BSW staff are set to take part in Scottish Mountain Rescue’s first ever virtual event.
Employees across its eight UK sites will be taking on one of three challenges during the month of June all while fundraising for Scottish Mountain Rescue.
BSW team members can choose to either walk, run, skip, jump, cycle or even canoe the following distances: 12 miles – a mile for every rescue call out Scottish Mountain Rescue receives in a week, 56 miles – a mile for every call out in a month or 168 miles – a mile for every call out a quarter.
The mill that completes the most miles logged will be declared the winner at the end of the month.
