Moor House School & College pupils have a new place to play after the school recently opened a new sensory garden and playground thanks to a generous donation of materials from BSW Timber.

BSW Timber donated green treated sleepers from its landscaping range to the school to be used to create raised planting beds for the playground.

Ground was broken on the project when local charitable foundation The Charles Lewis Foundation planted the first tree to begin the transformation of the space back in June.

The finished area includes the raised planting beds as well as a sensory path, sandpit and play area for the school’s children to experience and enjoy.

Deputy Head Teacher Stephanie Williams, who led the project, said: “Our approach at Moor House is to empower our children, who all have language disorders, to reach their potential and develop communication skills, friendships and self-belief.

“The new sensory garden and play area will help stimulate the children’s senses and offers a learning environment which is essential to their development.

“The transformation of a grey, concrete space into a beautiful, inspiring sensory garden and play area has been incredible and we are hugely grateful to BSW Timber who helped make it possible.”

James Brennan, Marketing Manager at BSW Timber said: “It’s fantastic to see our products being put to such good use, the whole garden looks amazing and I’m sure the pupils of Moor House will really appreciate it.

“At BSW we try to give back to the community wherever we can and we’re proud to be able to lend a hand and help bring this worthwhile project to fruition.”

Della Skeates, Trustee at The Charles Lewis Foundation, who helped open the playground, said “Much like every other time I have visited Moor House, the opening of the new playground and sensory garden left me smiling from ear to ear.

“The positive and happy atmosphere surrounding the students and staff at Moor House is incredible. We feel truly honoured to have been part of a project that we have no doubt will provide joy, fun and laughter and new opportunities to all for many years to come.

“A huge well done to everyone who has been involved – you’re wonderful.”

BSW Timber’s range of landscaping sleepers is incredibly versatile, giving you the opportunity to get creative. Bringing order to errant beds and borders, giving climbing plants a new summit to reach, replacing cold stone steps with something infinitely more characterful, the possibilities are limitless.

BSW are suppliers of railway sleepers that have been treated with high pressure preservative to ensure longevity and the range is available in an array of finishes.

As with all BSW products, our garden sleepers are produced to exacting standards, adding charm to any garden. They offer the opportunity to create height, depth and undulating areas outside. The beautiful textures and hues of natural wood add character, whilst the striking profile defines and gives structure to your space.
