BSW Timber has donated the materials to build a new playground gazebo for Earlston Primary School. Employees from both BSW Timber’s Marketing and Accounts departments have headed back to school to unveil the new playground addition.

Known as ‘The Bandstand’, the project was co-ordinated by Earlston Community Development Trust and Earlston Community Council.

BSW staff joined with representatives from the local council, school staff and of course local schoolchildren from Earlston Primary School’s P1, P4 and P7 classes to officially open the school’s new playground gazebo.

The gazebo makes use of some of BSW Timber’s most popular products, including feather edge boards, square edge boards, construction timbers and Timeless decking. The multi-use outdoor structure was constructed by the Unpaid Work Team at Scottish Borders Council.

James Brennan, Marketing Manager Designate at BSW Timber, said: “It’s fantastic to see the pupils using the gazebo – we’re glad to help out Earlston Primary with this project – BSW have such a rich history in this region and it’s great to be able to give something back to what’s essentially our local community.”

Although officially opened at the beginning of March, the gazebo has been incredibly well received and is already a firm playground favourite with the school’s pupils.

Frances Eneide, of Friends of Earlston, commented: “Through the generous support of these local organisations we have been able to make a number of improvements to the playground – a key priority identified by parents and are delighted with the new features which benefits the children’s outdoor environment”.

An additional grant from Earlston Community Council enabled further improvements to be made, funding two huge chalkboards, also constructed by the Unpaid Work Team, and are being put to good use by the children.

Earlston holds an important place in BSW’s history as it is the business’s hometown. It is on this original site within the Berwickshire town where the group’s headquarters are still located to this day.
