IRO Timber is committed to using environmentally friendly and non-toxic methods to coat our products. Traditional wood creams often involve harmful chemicals that can leach into the soil and water, affecting ecosystems and human health.
One of the stages of producing IRO is the application of a colourful wood cream, but unlike other creams, Our touch-up is HVOC-free.
HVOCs can contribute to air pollution and ground-level ozone formation, which harms the environment. Choosing HVOC-free products helps reduce the release of these pollutants, contributing to better air quality and a healthier planet.
To maintain IRO, it is essential that you apply our colour-matching touch-up cream produced by Rubio Monocoat, both to seal cut ends and to ensure the surface of the product remains water repellent and UV stable.
To apply the cream, simply wipe it onto the surface of any IRO cladding or decking product using a clean cloth and remember to wipe off any of the excess.
IRO Touch-Up Cream can be purchased online from official IRO retailer: Barlow’s Woodyard.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is IRO created?
Inspired by the traditional Japanese method of yakisugi, IRO is crafted through an intricate process that uses the most innovative timber technology. This encompasses state-of-the-art sawmilling and two stages of kiln drying, in addition to heat enhancement, brushing and the application of a protective wood cream.
What profile is IRO?
IRO cladding has a square edge profile.
How is IRO cladding installed?
IRO Cladding is installed like any traditional cladding.
Is a ventilation gap required?
IRO cladding needs an air flow behind and we recommend installing a batten system which allows ventilation. A well-ventilated structure will increase the durability by ensuring that timber remains at the correct moisture content. IRO decking should be installed on a frame. This will act in the same way by allowing air circulation.
What gap should be left between the boards?
A 5mm gap needs to be left between the boards because timber expands and contracts depending on the weather conditions.
How should IRO be protected?
If the end of any external IRO product is exposed it should be coated with the colour-matching touch-up cream. This seals the board again, ensuring it remains protected against the elements.
How do you clean IRO cladding?
We recommend using a sponge and hose to keep IRO clean. Don’t used anything powerful like a power wash to clean IRO otherwise you’ll damage the product and remove the coating. We also supply touch-up cream that’s very easy to apply; it’s as simple as wipe on and wipe off!
