Finlay Carson MSP visited BSW Timber’s Dalbeattie based sawmill on Friday 8th March as part of the National Apprentice Week campaign. Mr Carson was joined by Lynne Lambie, Relationship Account Executive from Skills Development Scotland.

Both visitors enjoyed an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the mill followed by an inspirational talk from BSW’s own Gary McCaig who highlighted to the visitors the role of saw doctors and the importance of this engineering art in producing quality timber products.

The guests also met with several BSW apprentices, including: third year apprentice Mark Walker who recently won the Dumfries and Galloway College’s Student of the Year award and first year apprentice and new recruit Liam Pagan.

From 4-8th March BSW Timber celebrates the achievements of individual apprentices and all those who contribute to their success.
Apprenticeships and work-based learning are providing the skills needed for BSW to continue as a successful business.

This year’s theme is ‘Skills for the Future’, recognising the importance of investing in our workforce.

Apprenticeship opportunities in BSW are growing and the business want as many young people, the local communities and our business to benefit from their dedication, energy and ideas.
